Bluewater, MARIN, Van Oord and the Port of Rotterdam are organising a live demonstration of MAGPIE’s Demonstrator 5: E-Tower Operations (formerly known as the e-buoy concept), focusing on electric charging at sea.
Initially explored within the MAGPIE project as an innovative solution for offshore electricity charging of vessels moored in waiting areas or operating near offshore wind farms, the concept has since been further developed by Bluewater into the Electric Loading Tower, now entering the testing phase.
The demonstration will take place at MARIN’s Large Motion Simulator (LMS) in Wageningen and will present the operation of an electric service vessel connecting to the E-Tower.
Several operational scenarios will be demonstrated, including vessel approach, mooring and dynamic behaviour under different environmental conditions (waves and wind). The session will also highlight operational procedures and 3D visualisation tools developed to support these new offshore charging operations. Participants will additionally be able to experience the simulation through VR technology available at the facility.

The Nordic-Baltic Maritime Forum
The inaugural Nordic-Baltic Maritime Forum in Helsinki will be a landmark gathering of maritime leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across the Nordic-Baltic Eight: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden.
Spanning a week of engaging, informative, and dynamic activities, the Forum’s aim is to bring international industry stakeholders to Helsinki to learn firsthand about the region’s strong maritime capabilities, technological excellence, and proactive approach to innovation and sustainability.
The Forum will highlight innovation in marine energy (conventional and alternative fuels), shipbuilding and technology, and ports and terminals, with a key focus on Finland’s contributions to these sectors.
A Week of Maritime Collaboration
The programme is designed to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange through an exciting mix of events, including:
• Site visits to shipyards, ports, and technology facilities across the Helsinki region.
• Roundtable discussions bringing together industry executives, policymakers, researchers, and innovators to explore practical pathways for sustainable maritime growth.
• Specialised seminars focusing on next-generation marine fuels, ship design and vessel optimisation, and the digital
transformation of ports and terminals.
• Technology demonstrations showcasing cutting-edge solutions in areas such as fuel systems, propulsion, vessel
optimisation, and smart port management.
A focal point of the week will be a high-level conference featuring contributions from senior stakeholders from across the Nordic Baltic maritime ecosystem. This flagship event will debate the most pressing issues facing the global maritime sector and highlight how the Nordic-Baltic Eight are shaping the maritime future through the energy transition, technology, shipbuilding, digitalisation and AI, and at ports and terminals.

Join us on 17 September 2026 at De Doelen, Rotterdam (NL) for the joint final conference of the MAGPIE and PIONEERS projects.
This event will bring together port authorities, policymakers, industry leaders, and knowledge partners to explore what we proved works in practice and how to turn ambition into action. Through concrete demonstration results, hands-on exchange, and tools like the Green Port Master Plan, our final conference will show how innovation can be embedded into long-term port strategies.
