MAGPIE Amendments: a few words from our project leader, Arne-Jan Polman

On 3 November 2025, CINEA approved an amendment to the Magpie grant agreement. The amendment contained several budgetary and scope changes. It also allowed some of our original beneficiaries to leave the consortium and new partners to enter. From this point, I would like to express my gratitude to the leaving beneficiaries for the work carried out. Additionally, I am pleased to introduce the new consortium members who will take over the activities.

PitPoint.LNG (currently known as Vigo Bio Energy), the lead of a demonstration of BioLNG production, has left the consortium because the demo could not be carried out. The demo on BioLNG is replaced by on-site e-methanol production, with TNO as the technical lead of the demo.

VDL will not continue its contribution to the demo on green electric trucking. They are replaced by Rocsys. Rocsys provides hands-free charging of electric vehicles. Within Magpie, Rocsys’ solution serves an autonomously driven electric truck developed by DAF in cooperation with TU/e, TNO, Fraunhofer IVI and APM Terminals. The combined technologies allow the driver to exit the vehicle upon entering the logistics yard and take a break, allowing them to use their precious time for driving on public roads. At the same time, the truck autonomously continues to load or unload cargo and get charged for its next ride. This facilitates the site operator optimizing logistics on site and making optimal use of charging infrastructure and grid capacity. In the same demo, AI in Motion has left the consortium due to a changed strategy at the company. The complete system enables end-to-end automated charging, setting a new benchmark for future-proof logistics.

Due to the different setup for the demo on shore power peak shaving (on board the Heerema Sleipnir vessel instead of at an existing shore power facility at a terminal), ENECO has decided to leave the project as well. In this same demo, Blockchain Fieldlab played a role with respect to the software necessary to predict energy flow and consumption. They have been replaced by Distro Energy, a spin-out of Blocklab.

Goodfuels has been active in developing a blockchain-based non-technical innovation regarding the availability of biofuels at a given port area. The company has been taken over by Finco Energies, so Finco has become the new beneficiary. Finally, H2PEG will leave the consortium. This is a rather administrative replacement, since the company has been replaced by RES Group, part of the same group of companies.
