MAGPIE at the 17th World Conference Cities & Ports by the AIVP

On May 12th 2022, members of the MAGPIE Consortium took to the stage in Tangiers during the AIVP’s 17th World Conference. Reyer Will (Project Manager of MAGPIE from Port of Rotterdam), Miguel Vieira de Castro (Portos de Sines e do Algarve) and Tommaso Spanevello (HAROPA Ports) along with Giannis Kanellopoulos (representative of PIONEERS), Ahmed Baroudi (Société d’Investissement Energétique), and Ryan Bennett (Port Authority of New South Wales) spoke during the session entitled “Ports and Cities for the Energy Transition, in cooperation with the MAGPIE Project”. The session was moderated by Larissa van der Lugt (Erasmus UPT), who is the leader of MAGPIE’s WP7.

Through their presentations the MAGPIE representatives shared how the demonstrations they are working on can be implemented and upscaled to supply and use green energy carriers in transport to, from and within various types of ports. Mr. Will, in his dual role as project manager and representative of Port of Rotterdam, gave an interesting insight into the project as a whole and how the Port of Rotterdam, as the lighthouse port, has started the creation of the demos. Mr. Spanevello highlighted the strategic importance of the project to achieve their carbon reduction goals under the EU guidelines. Mr. Castro further emphasized the importance of the project by highlighting the digital and energy transition developments for the Port of Sines that will stem from the cooperation in this project.
