On April 13th, the second MAGPIE exhibition opened to visitors at Portlantis in Rotterdam. Dedicated to 5 “Game Changers”, the exhibition showcases innovations brought about by MAGPIE.
Berte Simons, Chief Operating Officer of the Port of Rotterdam, cut the ribbon and officially inaugurated the exhibition, so that attendees could discover the demonstrations presented by MAGPIE and brought to life through augmented reality models.

The ribbon-cutting followed a series of pitch presentations by the demonstration leaders:
– Pieter Hazejager for the Hybrid Shunting Locomotive.
– Evert Han Huernink for the Offshore Charging E-Tower.
– Thierry Verduijn for the Autonomous Barge.
– Kennard C. Brandenburgh for the Shore Power Peak Shaving.
– Rianne de Vries for the Energy Container.
– Daan Nap for the Green Connected Truck.
These pitches were preceded by an introductory presentation from Nico Van Dooren & Mare Straetmans.
The Portlantis exhibition, alongside its sister exhibition in France, is designed as a platform to showcase the green ports of the future to students, schoolchildren, and other visitors, set against the backdrop of the wind turbines of Maasvlakte 2. Five years ago, the project proposal namely envisioned that MAGPIE would actively involve the public in its development by monitoring its social and spatial impacts, thus contributing to the strengthening the relationship between the project and citizens.
