MAGPIE reaches milestone in autonomous shipping: inland vessel sails independently between Rotterdam terminals

Rotterdam, 11/06/2026 – Unusual vessels returned to the Port of Rotterdam this week. Following the October 2025 public demonstration of intention sharing between inland vessels, the port provided the backdrop for another step towards automated shipping. The Port of Rotterdam and MAGPIE partners namely demonstrated how the inland vessel Letitia can navigate autonomously between terminals, even in busy port traffic. With MAGPIE, the Port of Rotterdam’s waters thus became a testing ground for the future of shipping, once again.
